COME RISPARMIARE ENERGIA

HOW TO SAVE ENERGY
The energy we use is mostly
produced by burning fossil fuels. This process produces carbon
dioxide leading to severe environmental problems, such as greenhouse
effect and all its consequences: increasing temperatures, aridity,
floods and increasing seas' water level.
Alarming data show that half of the energy used in the domestic field is wasted due to distractions, wrong use or inefficiencies of electrical tools.
Here are some tips to reduce energy and consequently its environmental impact and to prevent also money wastes.
- Use energy saving light bulbs: most of all in indoor lightening they can help reduce energy consumption by 1/5.
- When you buy electric tools, always pay attention to the energy-related label: every tool must have one and it must show their classification in the range of energy consumption. You can reduce energy costs up to 30%.
- Optimize your fridge and freezer: fridges must not be overfilled, otherwise they'll waste more energy to cool food stuck in there. Avoid introducing warm food in your fridge: to balance the temperature, the fridge engine will have to work harder, leading to more energy wastes. Periodically defrost your freezer: the frost layer works as insulator and increases energy wastes in order to keep the temperature stable.
- Optimize the use of washing machines and dishwashers: use full load washes at low temperatures: ¾ of the energy used goes to heat up the water.
- Stand-by leds warning: leds detecting that tools are in stand-by waste mostly useless energy because they are on during the night or for long periods while tools are not used. These wastes also weigh upon our energy bills!

COME RISPARMIARE ACQUA

HOW TO SAVE WATER
Water is a
precious common resource and having access to it is a universal
right. In order to guarantee its continuity and healthiness, it must
be used in a sustainable and functional way.
Nowadays more than one billion people don't have access to drinkable water. This is why we have to learn to use it in a more responsible and respectful way.
- Take showers instead of baths: the average water needed for bathing is up to 4 times more than the water used to shower.
- Use a bucket to wash your car instead of a running water jet.
- When you brush your teeth or soap yourself in the shower don't leave the water running.
- When washing fruits, vegetables or dishes, soaking them for a while instead of putting them under running water helps reducing huge water wastes.
- When using washing machines or dishwashers, make full-load washes: in this way you can spare up to 10.000 liters of water a year and also save energy.
- Recycle water: use the water you have washed fruits or vegetables in to wash your plants or use cooking water to wash the grease off your plates and pans.
- Use tap flow reducers: thanks to this device you can save up to 40% of water and, especially in case of hot water, it also helps save energy, because of the reduced water flow.
- Pay attention when you wash your garden: washing your garden in the evening helps reducing water wastes, as during the day the soil is still warm and water vaporizes and can't penetrate the soil.
- Recycle rainwater: collect it in casks or tanks. Lacking in limestone, it can be used for washing your car, windows or watering your garden.

COME RIDURRE I RIFIUTI
- Preferire prodotti "formato famiglia" e prodotti concentrati.

HOW TO REDUCE WASTES
Most non-humid household wastes
produced consist in packaging. The 80% of all packaging wastes are
made up with glass, plastic and cardboard. In italy a single person
wastes an avarage of 34 kgs of packaging a year.
As consumers we have to intervene on our purchasing habits in order to reduce packaging wastes, while also paying attention to the quality of the purchased packaging itself.
- Prefer products with less packaging.
- Prefer family-size packs and concentrated products.
- Prefer products you can refill: you avoid other packaging to be wasted. You can use, for example, cleaning detergents or liquid soaps you can refill, teeth brush with changeable head, rechargeable batteries and rechargeable printing cartridge..
- Prefer products with recyclable packaging. Even better when packaging consist in just one material: they can be easily differatiated.
- No plastic bags: use shopping bags made of paper or tissue instead of plastic ones.
- Don't abuse disposable products: buying less of them you can considerably reduce the volume of household wastes.

MUOVERSI IN MODO ECO-SOSTENIBILE

HOW TO MOVE GREEN
Nowadays
our society is characterized by a huge number of transfers,
especially in the short run. Our reality is constantly distressed by
the negative effects deriving from the use of engine-based vehicles:
traffic congestion, air and acoustic pollution, money and energy
wastes.
It is necessary to improve patterns of sustainable mobility reducing mobility's impact on the environment and on our health.
In order to do this, we have to change our individual habits, choosing more efficient eco-friendly ways and means of transportation.
- Buy green vehicles (such as cars fueled with methane or autogas) or hybrid cars.
Methane, for example, is not derived from petroleum and is made of one single carbon atom bonded with four hydrogen atoms, which means methane emits much less carbon dioxide than other fossil fuels. Methane does not contain benzene, lead or sulphur compounds and it's also cheaper than traditional fuels.
- Car + bike/public transport: if you work in hurban centres, but live outside them, park your car in the outskirts and then use your bike or public transport to cover the remaining distance. Walking a few minutes every day is sustainable as well.
- Prefer assisted pedalling bikes rather than motorcycles. Hybrid electric bikes allow the same speed as mopeds with the advantage of keeping your legs in movement. Assisted pedalling bikes don't emit any kind of polluting substances and allow you to move for several kilometers without physical extertion. Electric mopeds can be used by lazy people: they're comfortable and at low environmental impact as well.
- Carsharing: it is a widely used way of transport especially in North Europe, through which a vehicle is placed at public disposal. Carsharing is cheap because it allows the reduction of vehicle's fixed costs, it costs less than renting a car or taking a cab and it can provide for lacking links in public transport.
- Car-polling: also said “ride-sharing”, it's a way of transport trying to make as much passengers as possible share the same ride, in order to avoid cars moving with only one passenger on board. In this way there are less private vehicles moving, which leads to less gas emissions produced.
